KANKO began as an collaborative experiment between songwriter Brian Ramos (Fantasma) and producer Dusty Oliveira (Master Blaster) mixing traditional Latin American sounds with punk and hard rock. As the project started to take off Kanko gained a few members – Ryan Rooney, Nick Trevino and John Spiece – and the hard edged, neo-cumbia tones became bubbled to the surface. Their sound has matured into something that’s at times soulful and others gritty.
